Etappe 4 Kressborn-Gohren - Rohrschach

7 July 2011

This leg of the tour took us from Germany, through Austria and ended for the night in Rohrschach in Switzerland. The first stop was at the Lindau peninsula. The harbour, with it's lighthouse and Lion statue is a major port on the Bodensee with trip boats going and coming from Austria and Switzerland as well as Konstanz and other harbours along the German side of the lake.

Tanja had an interesting encounter with a young student posing as a statue. After putting a coin in his collection box, the "statue" suddenly came to life whistling at her, then giving her a "kiss the hand Madam" and blowing a kiss after her before returning to immobility.

Crossing the border into Austria we passed a young couple posing for their romantic wedding photos at the lakeside in front of the Seehotel in Bregenz. Passing the socalled Altrhein (Old Rhine) we soon stumbled upon our next adventure... a bunch of young kids with a flat tyre (and of course no patches, pumps or tools ! ). We did our good samaritan act and repaired their puncture and while Darrell was busy pumping up the tyre, one of the youngsters, about 6 years old, told Tanja that he loved her (in Turkish).

Crossing the border nto Switzerland, we passed by the park where we had the accident last year with the chain falling off the tandem. Fortunately this yearwas uneventful and we soon arrived in the town of Rohrschach where we found our Cafe Hotel Mozart. We just had time for a walk through the town and along the promenade before a tremendous storm broke with torrential rain and strong winds.... we went to bed with grave forebodings about the last leg of the tour the following day.
